Daycare
A healthy dog needs to socialize regularly to build and maintain their social skills and comfort in a changing world.
Metro Dog’s social day care program provides a safe and fun environment for your dog to make friends, build relationships and get their dog on!
Your dog will be placed into the play program best suited for them. We have groups to meet every dogs’ size and play needs. Our handlers are constantly engaged with your dogs, supervising them and adjusting their program to make sure they are comfortable, happy, and having the time of their lives. Our goal is to send your dog home happy and satisfied!
Day care play groups run daily from 7 AM to 6 PM. All dogs have rest time between each play session. There is not a set schedule for when each group is in play or having rest. A dog’s need for activity and rest do not work on a set schedule. Instead, our day is pattern-based, establishing a rhythm of play time-rest time -play time- based on what handlers are observing in the moment.
All day care dogs must have an assessment and be approved for our program. Please visit Become A Client for details.
Is my dog a good candidate for social daycare?
Social daycare is suitable for dogs who are already socialized and enjoy the company of dogs.
Daycare is best for dogs who are young and still developing their social identities, dogs who play well and enjoy being with other dogs, and dogs who do better in the company of people and dogs.
Daycare is not well suited for dogs with a history of aggression towards dogs or people, have high levels of fear in new situations, are uncomfortable in highly stimulating environments, or who have unknown social histories. These dogs should first seek support from a trainer who specializes in their specific concern. Daycare is not the place to address these concerns as a first approach.
Daycare Programs
Social Day Care Program
The majority of our client dogs are in this program. It is best for well-socialized dogs who want to play or just enjoy spending their day in the peaceful company of other dogs. From the most active hound to the sunbathing lounger, our social day care programs cater to dogs of all ages and activity levels, from the adolescent to the senior. Social groupings are 6-20 compatible dogs (like with like). The dogs are always supervised by a handler when in play. Play sessions are broken up with rest sessions. When not in a play yard, your dog will be roomed for rest with friends. Dogs relax on a Kuranda cot in one of our luxury suites with friends or rest in a crate, depending on each dogs’ needs. Our daily schedule is activity-rest-activity-rest…Exactly how a dog’s day is genetically designed to be spent.
Single Social Program
Same as our social program, but these dogs don’t enjoy being in company during rest. They take their rest breaks alone in a suite of their own where they cannot see other dogs.
Puppy Program
8-24 weeks, depending on skill and maturity. Most have the skills and confidence to graduate the baby dog program by 16 weeks if they have been coming regularly since 8 weeks. Your new puppy will interact with other puppies, carefully selected adult dogs that enjoy puppies, and our handlers. Your puppy may be very outgoing or they may be more timid or shy. We meet them where they are and help move them forward, growing in maturity and comfort in the world. Puppies aren’t born knowing how to play. We help your dog learn through guided play. We focus on reading cues, facilitating appropriate play, when to take short breaks, and how to self-regulate. Nap time, complimentary lunch service (we feed your dog’s regular food, provided by you, to maintain a healthy gut), and a housebreaking schedule promote healthy development. We introduce your puppy to a variety of environmental stimuli available throughout our center. When puppies demonstrate they have the play skills and emotional maturity they graduate into our social day care program.
Semi-Private Program
This program is for dogs that have a foundation of social skills but do not enjoy the excitement of full play groups. These dogs prefer time with just a few friends. Custom play groups are crafted around the needs of the semi-private dog. Group sizes are smaller, typically 1 to 4 other dogs. Semi-private dogs have three 15-minute play sessions and one 30-minute play session. Potty breaks are offered every 2 hours.
Private Program
Less-social or special-needs dogs have a customized program just for them. They stay in a private suite, and have one-on-one handler attention that includes one 30-minute play, TLC session, or walk, along with three customized 15-minute play sessions in one of our 7 play yards with emphasis on outdoor play time. Play sessions are enriching experiences spread across the day. Potty breaks are offered every two hours.
